Got Your Mind On The Palm Of My Hand

You’ve been working on figuring out your life since the moment of your birth. And one part of you, maybe the most important part of you – your mind – has been molded by other (maybe) well-meaning people all this time.

It is “perfected” only in as much as you conform to the trend or the norm presently current in the culture. Note that I did not say it is perfected to serve you with your best intention in mind. As it is, it allows you to function well, to adapt to existing circumstances, to interact with others members of society, and the like. But this is not all there is for you.

Because, unfortunately what this does not allow you to do is to use it for yourself. I mean your mind. It is like you have placed your mind is on another person’s palm. Replace the word person with anything you like: institution, PR company, system, politician, etc., etc., etc.

If you allow your mind to be controlled by the societal trends, literally you put it on another person’s palm to do what they wish with it. They mold it, they change it, they insert in it beliefs they think you should have, they make decisions for you, How did you decide to buy the last product advertised on TV and was it your decision? Really? Or maybe it was put in there inconspicuously while you were doing something in the kitchen thinking that commercials do not affect you, hmmm!

Anyway, they tell you what’s “fashionable” and what’s not, what’s “trendy” and what’s not, they tell you what behaviors are modern, what music you should listen to, and how to furnish your house. And what about the movies you see? Do you think they create beliefs and decisions for you? What about the movie Inception? (Or the movie Elysium? And if you dutifully accept uncritically all these “new” ideas and beliefs and decision ready-made and served to you, you’re putting your mind on the hand on other’s palm.

Here there it is. You think for me.

Why it does not occur to you that you can make all these decisions as you wish, without being directed from outside? Because you’ve never been told you can. Because form the moment of your birth, your mind has been the target of this design of a system who does not care about you. Not that it does not not care (yes, there is a double not there), but it has other things to care about, and these are not necessarily having your best interest in mind.

Seems a little odd, doesn’t it?

No, I am not blaming the PR companies, neither am I blaming the TV screen. They’re just selling. They’re making a business. They’re in the business of making money. They don’t care. They don’t not care.

But as a system of control of society what they’re doing is spectacular. To take away people’s ability to think independently is quite an accomplishment. And all this without anybody noticing. I must admit that this is a quite a challenge. You and I could not do this.

Look around: most people are perfectly happy to be told how to live their lives. What to eat, how to dress, what to drink and when, what cars to drive, whether to use i4mt insurance or not, what jobs to take, what to think about situations and events, going to casinos like HappyLuke and having a good timne, how to react, and so on and so forth. It must have been quite a challenge to come up with this strategy, but I could see why it was vital, because so little people are worrying about their minds.

And then imagine that this system has to figure out what to do with all these minds that came on the palm of its hand. You have to separate the valuable bits from the unusable ones, figure out where to deposit the unusable pieces and maybe how to make money in the process. Business is the engine that drives the world, right?

Anyway, the procedure is pretty simple. You don’t have to go anywhere or submit yourself to any uncomfortable procedure.

Here is an example of how this could work. All you need is a little IPhone or Android. Automatically this device finds out the extent of your mind (not of your brain, of course), and then creates a small perimeter around you in which it radiates a state of interest and happiness combined with extreme pleasure. And most of all it makes it so simple it does not take any thinking at all. Your mind just pops out, goes into the phone and comes out in search for the happiness, interest and pleasure like a little kitten.

Nowadays the extend of many people’s minds is restricted to 128 bytes or 160 characters. This is the length of a text message. Or a short message on Twitter, LinkedIn or the like. Or a short comment on Facebook.

If your thinking is restricted to 128 bytes, or 160 characters how can you possibly think of complex issues? Of course you will prefer to be told everything. It’s actually so easy. You don’t have to think!

I see teenagers sitting next to each other a talking through text messages. They don’t even write any longer. They send each other stickers. What do you think all this is doing to these young people’s minds?

I can tell you one thing is it certainly not doing. It is not helping them to be able to think for themselves. Now this is kind of all right when they’re children, but what about when they become adults? How are they going to deal with real life challenges? Well, they’re not! They will wait to be told by someone, somewhere, or some “computerized thing” like a search engine,what to do. They will have no strategy that leads to anything positive. They will have no personal choice. It will be like having all the choices they want among the three choices offered to them. They will be running around in circles, in a repetitious, aimless and nonproductive thinking. And they will get nowhere.

Their “thinking skills” will be gone forever.

All the rest of their thoughts, whatever they may be, remain intact. They will still function, interact (through texting of course), react emotionally and brainlessly with directed emotions – of course they will be told what emotions to feel so they don’t even have to do that by themselves – they will still fall in love (maybe with an operating system – have you seen the movie Her? but they will not be able to resolve life challenges for their benefit. They won’t know how to do that. They will wait to be taken by the hand and told what to do.

And the system cannot hold individual hands all along. There are just too many hands to hold.

Now of course this happening or not is up to each individual. You can choose to take the easy phone route, or to begin to ask questions. Significant questions. You can begin to use your incredible god-like gift (which is your mind) to think how you could navigate the difficulties of life thinking for yourself. But of course this would be a little more difficult. It requires some effort. But it is worth it!
